Christian Jaccarini

Associate fellow

Christian’s work focuses on designing industrial strategies that support just transitions across high-impact sectors. At NEF, he has contributed to programmes in areas such as housing, transport, food, and land use. Much of his work centres on the principle of centrally enabled but locally delivered transitions, and as part of this, he has worked directly with local authorities and devolved governments – as well as employers, workers, trade unions, NGOs, government departments, and grassroots coalitions – to shape local economic strategies that are ambitious, credible, and deliverable.

From 2019 to 2022, he led NEF’s impact evaluation work, supporting a wide range of public and third-sector organisations to measure economic, social and environmental value using tools such as social return on investment and local multiplier 3. Before joining NEF, he worked as a senior economist at the Centre for Economics and Business Research, where he developed consumer spending forecasts, built macroeconomic indices, and applied econometric techniques to assess policy impacts. Christian holds an MSc in Economics from UCL and an MSc in Computer Science from Birkbeck.
