Maike Schmidt
Assistant researcher
Maike is a research assistant specialising in fiscal and monetary policy in the European Union. Prior to joining NEF, she worked at the European Parliament’s European parliamentary research service, focusing on Next Generation EU, and as a research assistant in the climate policy department at the German Institute for Economic Research. She also worked for the “Money and Society” research group at the Junge Akademie in Berlin, conducting interdisciplinary research into developing a monetary constitution that is suitable for organising a socially and ecologically just community. After her BSc in political science at the University of Amsterdam, Maike completed a master’s degree in economic policies in the age of globalisation, in both Berlin and Paris, where her research focused on the intersection of ecological economics, political ecology, and the monetary system.
