Public sector pay freeze, UK deficit, England tier system, growth and the Home Office equality laws breach

Miatta Fahnbulleh on BBC 2 Politics Live

Miatta appeared on Politics Live with Jo Coburn ahead of the chancellor’s spending review.

Public sector pay freeze

Miatta says that if we want to build back better from this crisis, we shouldn’t be balancing the books of the back of the poor or our key workers who have kept us going during this pandemic.

UK deficit

Miatta argues it’s less about the size of the deficit but the cost of financing that deficit which is at a historical low due to the current interest rate.

England tier system

With the prospect of a vaccine in the near future, Miatta argues that the priority for government in the meantime should be to contain the virus and intervene to support people where tougher restrictions are in place.

Growth

Miatta makes the case for more public investment to both boost and reshape our economy, pointing to the need to make improvements to the furlough scheme and strengthen our social security.

Home Office breach of equality laws

Miatta argues we haven’t learnt the lessons from the Windrush scandal fast enough and that the Hostile Environment is still hurting immigrants across the UK.
