Rethinking the UK’s role in a fractured world
In her speech, she drew upon the necessity of the UK to remain a leader in development and international aid amid ever more perilous geopolitics while emphasising that development cannot be separated from climate action. This government’s support for devolution of power sits at the heart of their international aid policy through empowerment, not lecturing, with a recognition that the age of development being done by the Global North onto the Global South is over, and a new era of mutual interest must frame our approach going forward.
