Reeves’ speech tries to rally troops around failed economic strategy

The New Economics Foundation (NEF) reacted to chancellor Rachel Reeves’ speech at Labour Party Conference today.

Hannah Peaker, deputy chief executive of NEF, said:

“Rachel Reeves is faced with the impossible task of rallying the troops around a failed and unchanging economic strategy today. She talks about the importance of contribution – of people getting back what they put in – yet she continues to target those with the least while the super-rich still aren’t paying their fair share. What we need is an economic reset, and to be freed from the self-imposed fiscal restraints that are holding this country back so that we can drive up living standards for all.”
