The government’s rework of the Help to Buy will do more damage than good

Grace Brown wrote for Inside Housing about the damage the government’s revamped Help to Buy scheme will cause to the housing system — and why council housebuilding is key to solving the affordability crisis.
“The evidence tells us that the problem is rooted in supply and tenure type: the homes people need, at rents and prices they can afford are not being built. Bringing back Help to Buy bails out a broken, speculative model in which homes are treated as assets, and paying developers to build more of the same only entrenches it.”
